Contest from the UGSPL: strengthening the capacity to document war crimes of the Russian Federation

Human rights non-governmental organizations, regional media, representatives of local self-government, law enforcement officers

Priority activities within the Project: Strengthening the capacity of local communities in the south and east of Ukraine in documenting the war crimes of the Russian Federation, providing legal and technical support for the application of the norms of international humanitarian law. Creation and support of platforms for discussion of challenges in recording the damage caused by local activists, local self-government bodies (LGUs), investigative bodies and other stakeholders. Expert support for documentarians regarding the use of formal and informal international human rights instruments (in particular, communication with UN institutions). The development of joint mechanisms for fixing the damage caused together with state institutions to achieve the maximum completeness of documentation at the community level, conducting joint monitoring, collecting and systematizing information about the damage caused. Development and implementation of local community recovery programs, which include support for affected residents, damage assessment and the formation of a request for compensation.

“Act to Support”: a competition for civic tech solutions

Civil society organizations working on the development of digital tools can participate, namely, charitable organizations, public associations, other legal entities registered in Ukraine and having non-profit status.

Ten non-governmental organizations will receive funding to develop civic tech tools aimed at supporting IDPs, including youth, small and micro-businesses, host communities, and other issues arising or exacerbated by war. Each of the winners will receive an award of up to 20,000 euros for the implementation of their project. Support can be obtained both for the development of new products and for the significant improvement or addition of those that the organization is already working on. These are chatbots, sites, applications and other digital solutions.
