The manager of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, philologist of the English language and literature Zarema Bariieva, during the presentation of the official translation of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in the Crimean Tatar language, said that with the help of such initiatives, the CTRC continues to promote the development of the legal Crimean Tatar language.
“The European Convention on Human Rights has been translated into 40 languages, and now, thanks to the efforts of the team of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, as well as a group of qualified experts, a Crimean Tatar translation of this document has appeared”,- she said.
According to the manager of the CTRC, today the European Convention on Human Rights is the most dynamic international normative act that protects the rights of more than 830 million people in 47 countries of the world.
“The CTRC has set itself ambitious goals to do everything possible so that the main, significant legal documents existing in the world today are translated into the Crimean Tatar language, thus, to contribute to the development of the legal Crimean Tatar language, and eventually contribute to the emergence of a good Crimean Tatar dictionary of legal terms”, – added Bariieva.
The philologist explained that after the total deportation of the Crimean Tatar people from their historical homeland in 1944, the Crimean Tatar language was banned for several decades and did not have the opportunity to fully develop. For many years, Crimean Tatars were deprived of the opportunity to study their native language in preschool institutions, schools and universities in places of deportation. There were no language laboratories of the Crimean Tatar language that would be engaged in the preservation and development of the language.
“That is why not one translator was involved in the work on the translation of this document, but an expert group consisting of publicists, philologists and an international lawyer. It is very important when working on translations of such documents to work with the original source, namely, to translate from the original language, that is, English or French, and not from the Russian language”,- she summed up.
We remind you that on November 10, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Ukraine at the Ukrinform news agency presented the official translation of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in the Crimean Tatar language. Moreover, it is not the first time that the Crimean Tatar Resource Center has been engaged in the translation of international documents. On October 24, 2019, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was presented in the Crimean Tatar language.
