The winners of the literary contest ‘Crimean figs/Qırım inciri’ were awarded in Kyiv

On Friday, 30 August, the winners and finalists of the fifth Crimean Fig/Qırım inciri literary contest were announced in  Kyiv.

The winners were:

  • Prose about Crimea in Ukrainian – Jan Gul ‘Dağ çayı. Mountain Tea’
  • Prose in Crimean Tatar – Mustafa Kiyik ‘Bosağada beklerken’.
  • Poetry about Crimea in Ukrainian – Ada Yelagina ‘Let me not come’
  • Poetry in Crimean Tatar – Muhtar Muhtarov ‘Tınçlıq yoq’
  • Children’s literature about Crimea – Alie Kendzhe-Ali, selection of poems
  • Essays about Crimea – Dilyaver Zinedinov ‘Qırım, ve Qırımnın en’ajayıp adamlarının birisi akkıynda’.
  • Translation of a work of fiction from Crimean Tatar into Ukrainian – Mustafa Osmanov, translation of Osman Osmanov’s ‘Zynjirli Madresenin’son’ki bash muderrisy’ (‘The Last Bash Muderis of Zyndzhirli Madrasa’).
  • Translation of a work of fiction from Ukrainian into Crimean Tatar – Leilek, Mamure Chabanova, translation of Bogdan Lepkyi’s ‘From Under Poltava to Bender’
  • Special nomination ‘Words of Freedom’ – Mumine Saliieva
  • Special award ‘For contribution to the development of Crimean Tatar literature’ – Pevat Zeti.

We would like to remind  that ‘Crimean fig/Qırım inciri’ is a Ukrainian-Crimean Tatar literary project, which was founded in 2018. It aims to promote the dissemination and development of Crimean Tatar language and literature, to actualise the theme of Crimea and Crimean Tatars in Ukrainian literature, and to promote the emergence of mutual translations for deeper mutual understanding of two cultures.

Eskender Bariiev, Chairman of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Centre, member of  Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, joined the event.

‘The people who write, not only leave themselves in the history of mankind, but also form their philosophical thought, which is necessary not only for their future, but also for all mankind…’ – he emphasized.
