Crimea has been occupied for almost 10 years. Of course, during all this time, the Russian government tried to erase any connection between the indigenous peoples and Ukrainians with the peninsula, and in return impose its culture, language, values, traditions etc.
It should be understood that after the deoccupation of Crimea we will get a very difficult situation and the implementation of Ukrainization in Crimea must be competent and take into account the interests of all groups of the population.
The team of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center emphasizes the importance of introducing positive Ukrainization, that is:
1.Decolonization, deimperialization and decommunization of territory and narratives in Crimea;
2.Formation and promotion of truthful historiography about Crimea and indigenous peoples;
3.Restoration of the rule of law in Crimea;
4.Protection and realization of the rights of indigenous peoples of Ukraine;
5.Protection of the rights of national minorities in Crimea;
6.Introduction of the Ukrainian as the state language of Ukraine as a mandatory language in all spheres of life;
7.Preservation and development of the languages of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine, preservation of the languages of national minorities;
8.Restoration historical justice and protection of cultural heritage of Ukraine;
9.Preservation of the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of Ukraine;
10.European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Positive Ukrainization involves creating conditions for mutual understanding and dialogue between different ethnic and cultural groups. And this will help us create an inclusive and harmonious community in Crimea!
