On Tuesday, August 8, the documentary film My Crimea was presented at the Crimean House, which was prepared by Suspilne’s team for the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples.

In the film, a representative of the Crimean Tatars, Diliaver Osman, a Karaite woman, Nataliia Martkovych, and a Krymchak, Viacheslav Lombrozo, told the stories of their families, namely, how they preserve and continue the traditions of their peoples.

The discussion on the reintegration of Crimea and the rights of indigenous peoples, which took place after the presentation of the documentary educational film, was attended by Chairman of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov, Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea Tamila Tasheva, Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine for European Integration Taras Shevchenko, as well as the Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev.

In turn, Eskender Bariiev thanked for the creation of this documentary, noting the importance of such initiatives, especially now.

“In fact, there are a lot of stereotypes and myths about Crimea and indigenous peoples in general in Ukrainian society. It is very important to work in this direction and explain to Ukrainians, as well as residents of foreign countries, why this or that myth does not correspond to reality”,- he said.

The Head of the Board of the CTRC also drew attention to the constant repressions against the indigenous Crimean Tatar people in Crimea.

“Now, according to the CTRC, 294 political prisoners and those prosecuted in criminal cases for the period of the occupation of Crimea have been recorded, 196 of them are representatives of the Crimean Tatar people”,- the expert added.
