On Thursday, June 29, a meeting was held at the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting to develop criteria for classifying information as information related to the spread of Islamophobia (enmity, hatred) in the media.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the public sector, government institutions and experts. In particular, the discussion was joined by the Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, a member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Eskender Bariiev and the communication manager of the CTRC Tetiana Podvorniak.
“The work of the media is based on what content appears in the information field from government agencies, public organizations, religious organizations. It is important that this content is not provocative. At the same time, it is worth more covering information about Muslims in a positive way, as, for example, was the case with holding Iftar at the official level with the participation of the President of Ukraine”,- Bariiev stressed.
The result of this meeting will be prepared criteria for classifying information as one that concerns the spread of Islamophobia (enmity, hatred) in the media. For their part, the CTRC experts have already sent their work to the National Council of Ukraine on Television and Radio Broadcasting.
