May 13, 2021

On Thursday, May 13, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center presented a classification of persons responsible for human rights violations in the occupied Crimea. On the basis of this classification, experts formed sanctions lists, which included 166 people.

During the press conference, Eskender Bariiev stressed that all actions of the Russian Federation are criminal and grossly violate international law. Currently, the EU has imposed sanctions on 95 people and 23 legal entities, taking into account the situation in Eastern Ukraine and the illegal annexation of Crimea, and 180 people and 48 legal entities are included in the Consolidated List of UK Financial Sanctions under the Russia regime.

“Until now, the EU sanctions against Crimea have been applied only against persons involved in the violation of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity, and not against those involved in human rights violations in the occupied peninsula. This means that judges, investigators, prosecutors, employees The FSB and representatives of the security forces remain unpunished”,- he explained.

Liudmyla Korotkykh analyzed the practice of applying sanctions for human rights violations in the world, in accordance with the current sanction regimes of countries that have adopted analogous laws to the Magnitsky Act and the EU. So, in the United States, under the Global Magnitsky sanctions program, sanctions were imposed on 131 individuals and 117 legal entities, in the UK, under the sanctions regime Provisions on global human rights sanctions 2020 – against 72 individuals and 6 legal entities, in Canada in accordance with the law On justice in relation to victims of corrupt foreign officials – in relation to 70 individuals, in the European Union in accordance with the Council Decision on restrictive measures against serious violations and abuses of human rights – in relation to 15 individuals and 4 legal entities persons.
