The Ministry for the Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine announced that it is starting to work on a strategy for the development and popularization of the Crimean Tatar language, since it is an integral element of the identity and ethnocultural integrity of the Ukrainian Nation. The press service of the department reported about this.
“The Crimean Tatar language, as the language of one of the indigenous people of Ukraine, is an integral element of the identity and ethnocultural integrity of the Ukrainian Nation. The realization of the rights of native speakers, the development of the linguistic identity of indigenous peoples is guaranteed by the Constitution of Ukraine. These theses are also enshrined in the statement of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine regarding the guarantee of the rights of the Crimean Tatar people as a part of the Ukrainian state (Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of March 20, 2014 No. 1140-VII)”,- the message said.
The department noted that an additional danger from the point of view of the preservation and development of the Crimean Tatar language arose as a result of the occupation of Crimea. RF limits the scope of the Crimean Tatar language. In addition, many native speakers travel to mainland Ukraine with subsequent resettlement, which creates risks of assimilation and a decrease in language potential.
“For a month, we held active consultations with the Mejlis, with scientists and teachers about the range of tasks to work with. As a result, there is a general understanding that the issues of language development are complex and require efforts for a long time, which in fact belong to the competence of various departments, a regulatory framework is needed for interdepartmental coordination.Taking into account that a decision has already been made at the UN level on the International Decade of Indigenous Languages (2022-2032), the idea arose to develop a Strategy for the development and popularization of the Crimean Tatar language for the same period”,- said the Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov.
