Ukrainian project Respeecher intends to popularize the Crimean Tatar language

September 4, 2023

The Ukrainian startup Respeecher has initiated a project that will help accelerate the emergence of the Crimean Tatar language in various online services. This was reported by the representation of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

“For high-quality analysis, the initiators of this project need 1,000 hours of recordings of the Crimean Tatar language. Native speakers can send audio recorded on a voice recorder even at home. You can also record audio directly at the Respeecher studio if you live in Kyiv”,- the message says.

The Crimean Tatar language is said to be heard in assistants in smartphones, chat bots and online translators.

“The more different accents and tones of voices the AI model analyzes, the more accurate the result of language recognition will be”,- the representative office noted.

Recall that the team of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center is making every effort to preserve the language of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people, and therefore our website is available in the Crimean Tatar language:

This activity is especially important on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the languages of the indigenous peoples, and also given the fact that the Crimean Tatar language is included in the UNESCO list of endangered languages.

In addition, in 2019, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center translated the Universal Declaration of Human Rights into the Crimean Tatar language and posted it on the official UN resource. And in 2021, we translated the European Convention on Human Rights into the Crimean Tatar language.

We also plan to translate Ukrainian legislation related to Crimea and Crimean Tatars.

The CTRC also conducts an information campaign dedicated to the restoration of historical toponymy in Crimea “Let’s return the names – return Crimea”, which also contributes to the preservation of the Crimean Tatar language.
