The CTRC will host a panel discussion on the rights of indigenous peoples in conflict situations at the UN Indigenous Media Zone

Within the framework of the 25th session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center will host a panel discussion titled “Ensuring the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in Conflict Situations.” The event will take place on April 24 at 1:45 p.m. in the Indigenous Media Zone.

During the discussion, participants will address the role of Indigenous Peoples in peacebuilding processes and the necessity of their full participation in shaping decisions aimed at achieving sustainable and just peace.

Special attention will be given to the impact of war and occupation on Indigenous Peoples, particularly the situation of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people under the temporary occupation of Crimea, systematic human rights violations, persecution of activists, the militarization of the peninsula, and threats to national identity.

Speakers at the event include:

Eskender Bariiev — Chairman of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People;

Liudmyla Korotkykh — lawyer of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center;

Binalakshmi Nepram — President of the Global Alliance of Indigenous Peoples, Gender Justice, and Peace.

The discussion will serve as a platform for exploring international mechanisms for the protection of Indigenous Peoples and their contribution to peacebuilding in the context of contemporary conflicts.
