It should be emphasized that at the level of Ukraine the representatives of the CTRC take an active part in the preparation of normative legal acts of the CMU on the implementation of the Law of Ukraine “On Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine”, including the Procedure for securing and termination of the legal status of the representative body of the indigenous people.
The lawyers of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center assisted the Department of External Relations and Human Rights Activities of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People in the preparation of documents of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People for the completion of the procedure of consolidation of the legal status as a representative body of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people, which after all the approvals are in the CMU from October 6, 2023 till now.
What will the consolidation of the legal status of the Mejlis as a representative body of the Crimean Tatar people mean?
The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people will participate on a legal basis in all processes of formation of the state policy of Ukraine related to the indigenous peoples of Ukraine and Crimea. Participate in the development and implementation of programs, state and regional, related to the rights and interests of Crimean Tatars and other indigenous peoples of Ukraine;
Will strengthen the position of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and Ukraine as a whole at the international level, including on issues of racial discrimination of the indigenous people by the Russian occupiers;
Raise the image of Ukraine among the Crimean Tatar people, including among the diaspora, as well as among the Karaites and Krymchaks;
Promote more open and transparent work of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People;
Will strengthen the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people in the processes of implementation of the Law of Ukraine “On Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine”, i.e. to participate in the development of legal acts of Ukraine on financing the activities of the representative body under a separate program of the State Budget of Ukraine, receiving financial, technical, charitable and humanitarian assistance from foreign states, international organizations, legal entities and individuals, the development of the Crimean Tatar language, history and culture, the creation of indigenous media, etc.
We hope that very soon the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people will finally be in the legal field of Ukraine as a representative body of the indigenous people of Ukraine.
