Google Translate users now have access to translation into the Crimean
Tatar language in Latin script.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center is sincerely pleased with this news,
because the native language is the most precious treasure of the
people. For its part, the CTRC team is making every effort to preserve
the language of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people.
This activity is especially important in the context of the 10th anniversary of
indigenous languages, as well as given the fact that the Crimean Tatar
language is on the UNESCO list of endangered languages.
So, how do we contribute to the development and preservation of the
Crimean Tatar language?
Our website is available in Crimean Tatar: https://ctrcenter.org/
In 2019, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center translated the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights into Crimean Tatar and posted it on the
official UN website. In 2021, we translated the European Convention on
Human Rights into Crimean Tatar. We also plan to translate Ukrainian
legislation related to Crimea and Crimean Tatars.
The CTRC is conducting an information campaign dedicated to the
restoration of historical place names in Crimea “Let’s return the
names – let’s return Crimea”, which also contributes to the
preservation of the Crimean Tatar language.
Every week we continue our column “Dictionary of the Crimean Tatar
Language”, in which we teach our readers Crimean Tatar words and
phrases.
