Representatives of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people met with the delegation of the Senate of the Czech Republic

On Wednesday, October 27, a meeting with a delegation of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic was held in the office of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people. The diplomats discussed the situation in the occupied Crimea, and the Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center Eskender Bariiev spoke about the mechanism for bringing to justice those responsible for human rights violations on the peninsula.

The meeting was attended by a delegation of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic headed by Deputy Chairman of the Senate Mr. Jiří Růžička, Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov, Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis Ilmi Umerov, Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, Head of the Department of Legal  and Foreign Affairs of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People Eskender Bariiev and member of the Mejlis Gayana Yuksel.

Representatives of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people informed the diplomats about the current situation with the violation of human rights in the occupied Crimea, about repressions against the indigenous people of Crimea and ethnic Ukrainians, about systemic persecutions on ethnic and religious grounds.

Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center Eskender Bariiev spoke about the main directions of the organization's activities. To prosecute those responsible for human rights violations in the occupied Crimea and prevent violations in the future, the representative of the CTRC invited the delegation to promote the adoption in the Czech Republic of a law analogous to the Magnitsky Act, which provides for the introduction of personal sanctions against persons responsible for human rights violations in the occupied Crimea.

In addition, Bariiev stressed that the Russian Federation conducts systemic detentions, arrests, fines against Crimean activists. More than 100 political prisoners are in the FSB dungeons. Therefore, Bariiev spoke about the Atalık (Godfather) campaign launched by the International Movement for the de-occupation of Crimea and solidarity with the Crimean Tatar people #LIBERATECRIMEA and the Crimean Tatar Resource Center.

“Within the framework of this initiative, Ukrainian parliamentarians, as well as deputies of the European Parliament and national parliaments of European countries, can take patronage over Crimeans who have been arrested or persecuted by the Russian occupants”,- he added.
