June 17, 2021

On Wednesday, June 16, a discussion took place in the Crimean House, during which statesmen and human rights activists recalled the political prisoners of Crimea. Head of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center Eskender Bariiev emphasized the importance of the campaign MP, Help the Prisoners of the Kremlin!, in the framework of which MPs of Ukraine can take patronage over political prisoners and protect their rights.

Speakers:

Akhtem Seitablaiev, Head of the State Enterprise "Crimean House";

Anton Korynevych, Permanent Representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea;

Refat Chubarov, Chairman of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People,

Akhtem Chyihoz, People's Deputy;

Ilmi Umerov, Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, a former political prisoner;

Eskender Bariiev, Head of the NGO Crimean Tatar Resource Center;

Denys Savchenko, Head of the NGO CrimeaSOS;

Volodymyr Balukh, a former political prisoner.

Eskender Bariiev spoke about the clickable charts "Victims of the Occupation of Crimea" developed by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, which are permanently available via the organization's website in 4 languages and reflect the current number of political prisoners, missing and dead people during the occupation of Crimea. Now, according to the CTRC, there are 231 political prisoners.

A member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people recalled the campaign MP, Help the Prisoners of the Kremlin! launched by the International Movement for the De-occupation of Crimea and Solidarity with the Crimean Tatar People #LIBERATECRIMEA. As part of this initiative, Ukrainian MPs can take patronage over Crimeans who have been arrested or persecuted by the Russian invaders.

“It is important that at least one MP takes under the patronage one political prisoner and begins to work systematically in this direction. Then we will see a concrete reaction from other countries, and as a result, European MPs will also deal with the problems of political prisoners”,- Bariiev explained.
