The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland has reiterated its steadfast and unyielding position in support of the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The ministry stressed that Finland will never recognize Crimea as part of Russia.
"Finland declares its steadfast and unyielding position in support of independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. Finland does not recognize Crimea as part of Russia. Finland implements common EU policy on non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea, as well as restrictive measures introduced in relation to Russia as a result of its actions. Finland supports international efforts aimed at restoring the territorial integrity of Ukraine"- the message says.
In addition, Finland concerned about the situation with human rights on the Crimean peninsula, which continues to deteriorate.
Illegal annexation jeopardizes the ability of the inhabitants of Crimea to preserve their culture, identity and other fundamental rights. Illegal detentions and convictions, forced conscription into the Russian armed forces and other forms of pressure are directed primarily at Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians.
"Finland stresses the importance of releasing illegally detained and convicted people, investigating cases of human rights violations and bringing the perpetrators to justice. International human rights and humanitarian organizations must have unhindered access to the territory of the Crimean peninsula" – the statement stressed.
