CTRC warned Le Figaro and The Daily Telegraph from informational support of illegal excavations in Crimea

October 8, 2020

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center sent letters to the French newspaper Le Figaro and the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, in which it expressed concern about the informational support of these publications announced in October this year for the activities of the so-called “Russian-French Foundation for Historical Initiatives”, which plans to start on the territory of the occupied Crimea, large-scale excavations and reburials of participants in the Crimean War of the XIX century.

In its letters, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center provided a historical background and noted that it was the Crimean War that was the Rubicon that made the Crimean Tatars a minority in their homeland.

“We have no plans to remind you of the duty to respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine and the illegality of any de facto recognition of Russia's attempted annexation of Crimea. As such de facto recognition is the only realtarget of the "excavations" and "reburial" of perished French and British soldiers of the Crimean War by the gang of Pierre Malinovskiy, who are not professional archaeologists. But we regard such visits and excavations, including informational support, as part of neo-colonialism and racial discrimination of the Crimean Tatars”,- the letter of the CTRC said.

The Crimean Tatar Resource Center expressed hope that Le Figaro and The Daily Telegraph will not provide informational support to illegal excavations in the occupied territory and will not support racist processes in Crimea.
