On May 12, 2016, Russian security officers conducted regular mass searches in Crimea in the houses of representatives of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people. As a result, Zevri Abseitov, Remzi Memetov, Rustem Abil'arov and Enver Mamutov were detained. They are are accused of involvement in the activities of the organization "Hizb ut-Tahrir", banned on the territory of the Russian Federation. They are charged with Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("organization of activities of a terrorist organization and participation in it") and art. 278 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Forcible seizure of power or forcible retention of power").For more than a year and a half, the occupation authorities have illegally kept them in custody.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center calls on the international community, international human rights organizations to increase pressure on the Russian Federation and the occupation authorities of Crimea in order to stop political persecution and cancel earlier made decisions.
