The Crimean Tatar Resource Center sent a report to the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and association, Clement Nyaltsossi Vul, on the topic Crimea: climate change and the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of association.
The report was submitted for the creation of the thematic report of the UN General Assembly at its 76th session on the use of the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association to promote climate justice.
The CTRC provided information on the state of the environment in the occupied Crimea and gave as an example a number of examples of a ban on the exercise of the right to peaceful assembly related to the protection of the environment in the occupied Crimea.
“Taking into account the abovementioned, we call on the Russian Federation to cancel the ban of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people and restore its activities on the territory of Crimea, remove restrictions on peaceful actions, stop the practice of criminalizing the activities of environmental activists and end the illegal temporary occupation of the Crimean peninsula”,- the experts said in the document.
