Crimean Platform: a step forward

September 2, 2021

On Monday, August 23, the inagural summit of the Crimean Platform was held in Kyiv. The event was attended by 46 delegations from around the world and representatives of international organizations.

In general, the EU countries were present, as well as representatives of the USA, Great Britain, Georgia, Moldova, Turkey, North Macedonia, Australia, Japan, Canada, Iceland.

Thanks to this event, Ukraine was able to re-activate the issue of Crimea at the international level. A number of foreign publications devoted considerable attention to the summit on the front pages.

Today, the "Crimean Platform" is a consultative platform for allies who are ready to support Ukraine in the non-violent de-occupation of Crimea and the restoration of the country's integrity. This is a significant step forward, but one should not expect dramatic changes immediately after the summit. This should be the beginning of systemic collaboration.

Why?

The summit is a one-time public event that declared intentions to ensure the de-occupation of Crimea. It was a big and solemn event, which should be continued with painstaking, systematic work. We must focus on the work of the Crimean Platform itself so that at least some intermediate results can be seen in a year.

Yes, it was loud and beautiful, but now we are waiting for actions that will help bring Crimea back home.

The posters were developed by the Crimean Tatar Resource Center, activists of the international movement for the de-occupation of Crimea and solidarity with the Crimean Tatar people #LIBERATECRIMEA and Ukrainian artist Andriy Yermolenko.
