The staff of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center sincerely wishes Tofik Abdulgaziev a happy birthday. We wish him a speedy recovery, freedom, patience, strength of spirit, and a long-awaited reunion with his family.
May Allah grant him good fortune, patience, and health!
As a reminder, Tofik Abdulgaziev was detained in occupied Crimea on March 27, 2019. He was accused of participating in the organization “Hizb ut-Tahrir,” and on May 12, 2022, in Rostov-on-Don, the Southern District Military Court sentenced Abdulgaziev to 12 years of imprisonment in a maximum-security penal colony, with the first 5 years to be served in prison and one year of probation following his release.
Throughout this time, due to inadequate conditions of detention, the systematic disregard of his health complaints, and inadequate and untimely medical care, Tofik Abdulgaziev’s health has significantly deteriorated. He has been diagnosed with tuberculosis and bilateral pneumonia, and he has lost nearly 40 kilograms.
The CTRC team once again emphasizes that through these actions, the Russian Federation is violating the political prisoner’s right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health. Moreover, according to Russian law, seriously ill individuals must be released from custody, as human life is the highest value, and a sentence must not be a death penalty.
