According to him, “in the near future, the names of our defenders will be given to three streets in Kefe (Feodosia) and one in Akmesdzhit (Simferopol).”
Currently, according to Konstantinov, 11 streets in Kerch have already been named in honor of Crimeans who died in the war against Ukraine, 3 in the Kerch district, 3 in the Belogorsk district, 2 in the Yevpatoria district, 1 in the Kurman district, and one in Kefe (Feodosia).
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center emphasizes that such renaming is yet another tool for militarization and the imposition of Russian narratives on the temporarily occupied peninsula. The CTRC condemns such actions by the occupation administration and stresses that they are aimed at legitimizing the Russian Federation’s armed aggression against Ukraine and further displacing Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar identity from the public space of Crimea.
We note that the Crimean Tatar Resource Center continues its information and advocacy campaign, “Return the Names, Return Crimea,” which highlights the importance of restoring historical place names in Crimea.
