Crimean political prisoner Amet Suleymanov found himself without vital medicines, as the Russian prison has twice returned parcels with medicines that his wife had been sending since October. The medicines, which are important due to serious heart problems and the need for urgent surgery, were not allowed into the facility. This was reported by his wife, Lilia Lumanova.
The parcel arrived twice at the prison in the Vladimir region, but both times it was returned with the note “not allowed.” At the same time, the Russian administration did not explain why a person in serious health condition is being denied the medicines necessary to maintain his heart function.
Lumanova stressed that Amet’s condition is deteriorating:
“In August, he had an ultrasound of his heart. The documents were never sent to us despite our request. According to my husband, his condition has worsened. He is not receiving the medications I send from home. He is also not receiving proper treatment. The surgery is not being performed.”
She noted that she considers everything that is happening around her husband to be a slow murder in prison. She has no other explanation.
The wife of the Crimean political prisoner added that lawyers are preparing further legal steps.
On March 11, 2020, Amet Suleymanov’s home was searched, during which FSB officers conducted similar searches at the homes of several other Crimean Tatars. The occupation court in Simferopol placed him under house arrest, accusing him of “participating in the activities of a terrorist organization.” Amet Suleymanov is considered to be involved in the Hizb ut-Tahrir organization, which is banned in the Russian Federation and operates in Ukraine and other countries.
On October 29, 2021, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced him to 12 years in prison. Until April 5, 2023, he was under house arrest due to health problems, after which Russian security forces transferred him to Akmesdzhit (Simferopol) Pre-Trial Detention Center No. 2, and then to Vladimir Central Prison.
