Crimean political prisoner Medzhit Abdurakhmanov has been held in solitary confinement for over a year and a half without medical care

December 10, 2025

Crimean political prisoner Medzhit Abdurakhmanov has been held by the Russians for more than a year and a half in the punishment cells of the colony in Tsivilsk (Republic of Chuvashia, Russian Federation), where his health has deteriorated sharply: his blood pressure problems have worsened and his eyesight has deteriorated. This was reported to Crimean Solidarity by his wife, Elmira Abdurakhmanova, who was able to visit her husband in early December 2025.

According to Elmira, Medzhit’s health has deteriorated significantly. His blood pressure problems have worsened, his eyesight has deteriorated significantly, and he is not receiving adequate medical care.

“Once he became seriously ill and had a very high temperature. He was transferred to the medical unit, but was only kept there for two days — as soon as his temperature stopped rising, he was immediately returned,” the political prisoner’s wife emphasized.

Abdurakhmanova also notes that Muslim prisoners in the colony are not provided with food in accordance with Islamic norms. Due to bans on transfers from home and restrictions in the prison store, Medzhit is forced to skip mealtimes.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Center notes that the situation with the detention of Medzhit Abdurakhmanov once again demonstrates systematic torture, inadequate conditions, and deliberate disregard for the medical needs of Crimean political prisoners in Russian colonies, which has repeatedly led to fatalities.

We would like to remind you that Medzhit Abdurakhmanov was detained on March 27, 2019, under Part 2 of Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Participation in the activities of a terrorist organization”) in connection with his “involvement” in the organization “Hizb ut-Tahrir”. The occupiers illegally sentenced him to 12 years in prison.
