“Indigenous peoples matter to Ukraine”: The Crimean Tatar Resource Center launches a social media storm ahead of International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

August 7, 2025

Ahead of International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, the Crimean Tatar Resource Center is launching an information storm called “Indigenous peoples matter to Ukraine” on social media and calling on everyone to join the campaign.

On August 9, the world celebrates International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples. Today, there are more than 476 million indigenous peoples living in 90 countries around the world. Ukraine officially recognizes three indigenous peoples: the Crimean Tatars, the Karaites, and the Krymchaks.

Our wealth lies in our diversity. But for the 12th year in a row, the indigenous peoples of Ukraine have been forced to live in conditions of war. The occupying authorities have turned Crimea, their homeland, into a military base for attacks on mainland Ukraine.

Today, more than ever, it is important to maintain a united front. Crimean Tatars, Karaites, Krymchaks, and Ukrainians are united by a common goal: to live in a free, independent, and indivisible Ukraine.

Join the storm “Indigenous peoples matter to Ukraine,” distribute posters, and use the hashtag #LIBERATECRIMEA — so that our voice can be heard!
