We would like to remind that the purpose of the information campaign is to restore the historical toponyms of the Crimean peninsula and draw attention to the policy of Russification and Sovietization, which for centuries has tried to erase the Crimean Tatar identity, culture, history and connection with Crimea.
It should be noted that Russia has been systematically changing Crimean toponyms since imperial times, and after the deportation of the Crimean Tatars in 1944, this process became particularly widespread. Today, the occupation “administration” continues to use toponymy as a tool of information warfare, destroying historical memory and trying to erase traces of the Crimean Tatar presence on the peninsula.
As part of the campaign, the CTRC disseminates information about the real names of Crimean settlements, the history of their renaming and the manipulations used by Russian propaganda. For this purpose we use various media formats: infographics, videos, memes, tests and etc.
