In Kyiv, a Russian missile explosion caused significant damage to the office of the Crimean Tatar TV channel ATR. This was reported by journalist Ayder Muzhdabaev, who posted a video on YouTube showing the aftermath of the explosion.
According to Muzhdabaev, the explosion destroyed part of the TV channel’s archive, including books on the history of the Crimean Tatars, which were published in 2013. The office of editor-in-chief Gulsum Khalilova was also destroyed.
“The damage is great, so it is impossible to continue working in that office,”– Ayder said in a commentary for Suspilne Krym.
Despite the significant destruction, the employees of the TV channel were not injured.
As a reminder, ATR TV channel started broadcasting in September 2006 in (Simferopol) Akmeszhit as the first Crimean Tatar TV channel in Ukraine. However, after the illegal occupation of Crimea by Russia, its activities were blocked by the occupation “authorities”, and on March 31, 2015, the channel stopped working on the peninsula. To keep broadcasting, the management decided to move to the territory controlled by Ukraine. On June 17, 2015, ATR resumed its work from Kyiv.
