Why February 26 is the Day of Resistance to the Occupation of Crimea?

On  February 26, 2014 more than 15,000 Crimean residents expressed their support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Eleven years ago, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people initiated a large-scale rally in Akmesdzhit (Simferopol), during which Crimean Tatars, Ukrainians and pro-Ukrainian residents of the peninsula opposed the ‘’annexation‘’ of Crimea to the Russian Federation.

Why was this day called the Day of Resistance to the Occupation of Crimea? What results did the rally achieve? And what were the consequences?

Today, in 2025, the struggle continues. For three years now, Ukraine has been fighting back against the enemy on all fronts, and our resistance is unbreakable. We continue to join forces to liberate every occupied city and village. We will return Crimea back because Crimea is Ukraine!
