On October 21, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don
extended the arrest of Abdulmedzhit Seitumerov and other members of the
fifth Bakhchisaray group in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case for two months
without presenting new evidence. Abdulmedzhit Seitumerov’s lawyer Emil
Kurbedinov told Suspilne Krym about it.
According to Abdulmedzhit Seytumerov’s lawyer Emil Kurbedinov, the
prosecution extended the arrest, citing the assumption that the
defendants could escape or influence witnesses, although no new
evidence was presented.
The defense lawyers emphasize that their clients have positive
characteristics, are not accused of violent acts and comply with the
law while in the pre-trial detention center. However, the court
decided to support the prosecution’s position.
The next hearing is scheduled for November 18, 2024, during which the
prosecution is expected to question witnesses.
The lawyer added that the moral condition of the political prisoners
remains stable, but the conditions of prolonged detention in the
pre-trial detention center negatively affect their health.
Let us remind that on August 24, 2023, at 4 a.m., Russian
security forces broke into the homes of six Crimean Tatars – Seidamet
Mustafayev, Eldar Yakubov, Abdulmedzhit Seitumerov, Ruslan Asanov,
Ametkhan Umerov and Remzi Nimetulaev. After that, they were arrested.
