21 years in prison for treason and preparation of a terrorist attack for Akyar dweller

October 14, 2024

The occupation southern district military ‘court’ has handed down a sentence of 21 years in prison for a man from Sevastopol arrested two years ago for ‘high treason, training in terrorist activities and preparation of a terrorist attack’. He will spend the first four years in prison. The defendant’s data was not disclosed, and the entire trial was held in closed mode. This is reported in the ‘Tribunal. Crimean episode’.

According to the version of the FSB, the suspect was recruited by the security service of Ukraine and gave her the coordinates of the location of Russian troops in Sevastopol. However, later, according to the investigation, he allegedly received training in terrorist actions and planned an arson attack on one of the city’s administrative buildings. When he prepared ‘tools and means for arson’, he was detained by FSB officers.

The closed nature of the trial raises doubts about the reality and validity of the charges. The lack of information about the level of evidence, as well as the possibility of torture and falsification leaves open questions about the fairness of the trial. Additionally, a resident of the occupied territory was illegally taken to the territory of the aggressor state, which contradicts the norms of humanitarian law. This indicates the violation of his rights and the possible commission of offences related to kidnapping and deprivation of access to a normal judicial process.
