September 27, 2024
On Tuesday, 24 September, representatives of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center met with Professor Julia Gosart of the School of Information at San Jose State University, California State University.

In particular, the meeting was joined by Eskender Bariiev, Chairman of the Board of the CTRC, member of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Zarema Bariieva, manager of the CTRC, and Liudmyla Korotkikh, lawyer of the CTRC.

As a result, those present agreed to hold an International Scientific and Practical Symposium dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the deportation of the Crimean Tatar people in cooperation with Ukrainian and international scientific organisations.

The event is planned to be held in the format of an online conference in order to attract a wide range of experts and scholars from around the world.

Representatives of libraries as well as leading institutions of higher education in Ukraine and the United States of America will join the event. The symposium is designed to draw the attention of the international academic community to the systematic repression of the Crimean Tatar people, as well as to unite the efforts of scholars in researching this topic.

During the symposium, participants will discuss not only the historical context of the 1944 deportation, but also contemporary manifestations of genocide arising from the occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation and full-scale aggression against Ukraine. This issue is particularly relevant against the background of numerous human rights violations and harassment of Crimean Tatars, which have continued since the beginning of the occupation of the peninsula in 2014.
