September 24, 2024

The Chairman of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Centre Eskender Bariiev became aware that Murat Kadyrov, a resident of Ak’yar (Sevastopol), was detained on 14 February 2023 on charges of ‘financing terrorism’.

The reason for his detention was that 8 years ago the guy transferred 3000 rubles to a bank card to a low-income person from Dagestan. At first, he was kept in pre-trial detention center No. 1 of Akmesdzhit (Simferopol) in solitary confinement. Then he was transferred to pre-trial detention center No. 2 where he was beaten 20 times with a stun gun, which left scars on his body. He was also not given parcels and food there. Subsequently, he was transferred to the pre-trial detention center in Rostov-on-Don, where he served one year.

It is known that the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Murat Kadyrov to 10 years’ imprisonment under article 205, part 1. The appeal and cassation courts left this judgement unchanged.

In fact, Murat is an ordinary guy who has nothing to do with ‘terrorism’. He received high education and gained his master ‘s degree in ‘Physical Education’ at the Vernadsky Taurida National University. The guy was professionally engaged in Greco-Roman wrestling, had a number of awards for participation in various competitions, was a private entrepreneur and engaged in repair work.

During all the time in Russian detention centers Murat saw his wife only once at the trial. Moreover, she also suffered from the actions of the occupants. Thus, on the day of the search, both the guy and the girl were put on the floor. The Russian security forces took the wife at 9a.m. and released her only at 2a.m. the next day.
