The staff of the medical unit of the pre-trial detention center-1 Akmesdzhit (Simferopol) refused to accept documents confirming the disability of the completely blind Oleksandr Sizikov. This was reported to Crimean Solidarity by the political prisoner’s mother, Elena Sizikova.
She noted that all the documents were not accepted because of the allegedly ‘outdated’ dates. The detention center said that they would conduct a medical examination themselves.
As a reminder, Oleksandr Sizikov was arrested on 7 July 2020 as a result of massive searches and unfounded accusations in the Hizb ut-Tahrir case. In addition to him, six other people were arrested and sent to a pre-trial detention centre. Due to the complete loss of her eyesight, Sizikov was placed under house arrest.
Earlier, Olena Sizikova reported that after a car accident in 2009, her son completely lost his eyesight, and as a result of another accident, his spleen was removed. The political prisoner also has a chronic stomach disease, cervical and spinal diseases, which requires regular massages, constant monitoring by specialists, and rehabilitation courses.
However, on 13 September 2024, the Russian Military Court of Appeal ruled that Sizikov could serve his sentence in a penal institution, which is a violation of fundamental human rights.
