At least 12 cases of violation of the right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health were recorded in the occupied Crimea during August 2024, 11 against Crimean Tatars.
During the month, this right was violated in respect of Crimean political prisoners – Amet Suleymanov, Tofik Abdulgaziev, Ruslan Nagayev, Enver Ametov, Remzi Kurtnezirov, Iryna Danylovych, Yashar Muedinov, Zaur Abdulaev, Asan Akhtemov, Server Mustafayev, Arsen Abkhairov and Lenie Umerova.
These cases of violations are related to the deteriorating state of health of political prisoners in places of detention, ignoring the petitions of lawyers and prisoners themselves, and failure to provide proper medical care.
Moreover, due to the failure to provide proper medical care in Russian places of detention two political prisoners died: Dzhemil Gafarov and Konstantin Shiring.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Centre notes that now the occupants keep behind bars both elderly people and people with disabilities who are seriously ill. Due to inadequate conditions in pre-trial detention centres and prisons, due to the systematic ignoring of complaints about their well-being, due to inadequate and untimely medical care, their state of health continues to deteriorate. And this can lead to dire consequences.
We demand that rf immediately release all political prisoners and stop systemic human rights violations in the occupied Crimea.
