A year ago, the occupiers in Genichesk, Kherson region, detained Crimean Tatar Nariman Ablyazov for allegedly actively participating in the Crimean Tatar volunteer battalion named after Noman Chelebidzhikhan.
As the occupiers began to report, ‘the investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the Kherson region opened a criminal case against a resident of Genichesk under part 2 of article 208 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. It was established that from 2014 to 2015 the suspect voluntarily joined and participated in the banned in the Russian Federation organisation ‘Crimean Tatar battalion named after Noman Chelebidzhikhan’.
On 6 August 2024, the man was sentenced to 3.6 years with serving one year in prison and with restriction of freedom for a year.
We would like to remind that Nariman Ablyazov is 50 years old, he has three children. In fact, he was an entrepreneur, engaged in the hotel business and had nothing to do with the battalion named after Noman Chelebidzhikhan.
At the beginning of the occupation of Genichesk, the occupants detained Nariman Ablyazov’s wife and held her for some time in the basement of training school 17. Later the woman was released, but the occupiers did not leave the family alone.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Centre strongly protests and declares that the detention of Nariman Ablyazov is illegal, politically motivated and criminal.
This policy of the Russian Federation is a demonstration of the fight against dissent, as well as religious and political beliefs of people in the occupied Crimea. Furthermore, the decision of the ‘Supreme Court of Crimea’ demonstrates the ongoing repression and pressure on the indigenous Crimean Tatar people.
The Crimean Tatar Resource Centre demands the cancellation of Nariman Ablyazov’s sentence and the immediate release of other political prisoners.
