August 28, 2024

On 26 August, hearings on the case of the ‘fifth Bakhchisaray group’ began in Rostov-on-Don. This is reported by ‘Crimean Solidarity’ public association.

Esma, the mother of activist Seidamet Mustafayev, said that the families of the arrested were not allowed to see their relatives for a year in SIZO-2 Akmesdzhit (Simferopol). Only Eldar Yakubov’s wife Ayshe was able to see her husband on a short-term visit after eight months of waiting and many refusals from Vitaly Vlasov, investigator for especially important cases of the FSS.

‘We didn’t even get a proper visit. We are happy to see the guys. They look good, they send everyone hello and were happy to see people that they  are not alone with their own problems and no one was left aside,’ – said Esma Seidametova.

According to the defence lawyer, the prosecutor read out the indictment for about two hours. The prosecutor did not respond to the judge’s request to shorten his speech.

Also, all six participants in the case stated in the court that they do not consider themselves guilty and they have not committed any crimes.

We shall remind you that on 24 August 2023 at four in the morning Russian security forces broke into the homes of six Crimean Tatars – Seidamet Mustafayev, Eldar Yakubov, Abdulmedzhit Seitumerov, Ruslan Asanov, Amethan Umerov and Remzi Nimetulaev. They were then arrested.
