Political prisoner Asan Akhtemov, who was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment by the occupiers, has suffered a deterioration of his health condition in prison No. 2 in Vladimir region (Vladimirskiy Tsentral). This was reported by his wife Repika Akhtemova via her Facebook page.
In particular, the man’s teeth and vision are deteriorating. According to his wife, medical assistance is practically not provided to him, so he monitors his health on his own.
‘Due to the lack of proper nutrition and vitamins, the teeth are spoilt. In his spare time he reads a lot and due to the lack of normal light he began to see poorly. He tries to relieve eye strain with eye exercises, but he still feels that his eyesight is deteriorating. The conditions in prison are, of course, harsh. Very often we have to fight for our rights, despite the fact that it can be very difficult,’ – said the woman.
We would like to remind that on 3-4 September 2021 in the occupied Crimea, the homes of Crimean Tatars Eldar Odamanov, Aziz Akhtemov, Shevket Useinov, Asan Akhtemov and Nariman Dzhelyal were searched. The law enforcers seized equipment and took the men away with them. Later it became known that Nariman Dzhelyal and his cousins Aziz and Asan Akhtemov were suspected of complicity in sabotage. The occupiers claim that they are involved in damaging the gas pipeline in the village of Perevalnoye in the Simferopol district of Crimea.
On 6 September, a Russian ‘court’ in the occupied Crimea arrested the first deputy chairman of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Nariman Dzhelyalov, as well as brothers Aziz and Asan Akhtemov.
