The illegally imprisoned civic journalist Marlen Asanov was denied a petition for transfer to a colony closer to Crimea by the occupation ‘court’ of Bakhchisaray district.
This is reported by ‘Suspilne Crimea’ with reference to the commentary of lawyer Nazim Sheikhmambetov.
Now the Crimean political prisoner Marlen Asanov is in the penal colony № 7 in the village of Sosnovka Republic of Mordovia.
The civic journalist and former entrepreneur, volunteer of ‘Crimean Solidarity’ was detained on 12 October 2017 on far-fetched charges of ‘organisation of terrorist activity’ and preparation for ‘violent seizure of power’. A year before the arrest, an illegal search was conducted by occupation security forces in the café ‘Salachik’, the owner of which is Marlen. On the same day, four local residents were arrested, also on spurious charges. That day Marlen was issued an administrative fine ‘for violation of public order’.
On 16 September 2020, Marlen was sentenced to 19 years’ imprisonment on spurious charges at the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don.
