On Monday, 15 July, an event dedicated to the 8th anniversary of the coup attempt in Turkey was held at the Hryshko National Botanical Garden in Kyiv.
By the decision of the Turkish government, this date was declared the Day of Democracy and National Unity.
The event was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkey to Ukraine, members of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, representatives of the Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar public. In particular, Eskender Bariiev, Chairman of the Board of the Crimean Tatar Resource Centre, member of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, joined the meeting.
In the Garden of Friendship and Democracy opened an exhibition of photographs, which tells about the coup attempt in Turkey on 15-16 July 2016. It is known that 252 people were killed then.
‘It is very important for us that Turkey, as our neighbour in the Black Sea region, is a democratic and united state that supports democratic peace and international law. Because in the fight against aggressors, authoritarian regimes, democratic Turkey will and can systematically help us, pursuing the values of democracy and unity. Therefore, for our part, we supported the Turkish people and the Republic of Turkey, which also supported us and continues to support Ukraine at the international level,’ – emphasised Eskender Bariiev.
