June 18, 2024
Last weekend, 15-16 June, Switzerland hosted the Peace Summit   organised by Ukraine. At the invitation of Volodymyr Zelensky, 101 representatives of countries, organisations and blocs came.

The outcome of the Global Peace Summit was a joint communiqué on the foundations of peace, published on the website of the President of Ukraine, which was signed by almost all participants of the Summit.

The report notes that the Summit was built on the basis of previous discussions, which were held on the basis of the Ukrainian Peace Formula and other peace proposals consistent with international law, including the Charter of the United Nations.

The participants managed to reach agreement on three important aspects, among them:

1. The safe use of nuclear energy and the inadmissibility of the use or threat of nuclear weapons in the context of war.

“Any use of nuclear energy and nuclear installations must be safe, secure, safely guarded and not harmful to the environment. Ukrainian nuclear power plants and facilities, in particular the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, must operate safely and securely under the full sovereign control of Ukraine…” – the statement reads.

2. The importance of food security and the inadmissibility of its use as a weapon.

3. The release of all prisoners of war through full exchange.

“All deported and illegally displaced Ukrainian children and all other Ukrainian illegally detained civilians must be returned to Ukraine.” – the statement says.
