At least 4 people were abducted in Crimea from March to May 2024
This is stated in the report of the human rights initiative Irade, which records a return to the practice of enforced disappearances from autumn 2023.
As noted by human rights activists, in the spring after searches three people disappeared without a trace. Another one disappeared on the motorway “Tavrida”, his car was found at a petrol station near Simferopol. Subsequently, this man was found: he confessed to possession of an explosive device, and before that at least 4 days were without any status in an unknown place.
Enforced disappearances are prohibited by international law and a separate UN Convention. The abduction of civilians in the occupied territory is a war crime for which those responsible will be punished.
