Nariman Dzhelyal, Crimean Tatar activist and political prisoner, deputy chairman of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, was finally able to see his family on a long visit from 12 to 15 June. This is the first visit since his arrest, as the previous visit in March was cancelled without explanation. The wife said that she was concerned about the state of her husband’s health.
This was reported by the wife of the political prisoner, Leviza Dzhelyalova on her Facebook page.
Dzhelyalova said that the journey from Simferopol to Minusinsk was difficult. After arriving, his wife was able to see Nariman on a short date, which was a pleasant surprise for him.
The next day there was a long visit, during which the family spent three days together. The father was also visited by his daughter and son.
“These were special and happy days for the children, which they missed so much.” – The wife added.
According to Dzhelyalova, the main concern is Nariman’s health condition.
“One of the acute problems remains the state of his teeth. Once he managed to get to a dentist and have a tooth treated. However, due to periodontal disease, he needs much more serious help, in particular prosthetics, which is not available in prison. And the nearest accessible medical facility for inmates has a waiting list for months ahead,” – Dzhelyalova said.
Periodic problems with the spine in the lumbar region and the development of varicose veins in the hamstring area also remain relevant. The political prisoner also complained of deteriorating eyesight.
Nariman expressed his gratitude to everyone who helped organise the visit, supported his family and conveyed his wishes. He emphasised that the support of friends and family strengthened his faith in the values for which he was fighting.
We would like to remind that Nariman Dzhelyal is a journalist, activist and Deputy Chairman of Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people.
On 3-4 September 2021, representatives of the occupation “authorities” of the Russian Federation in Crimea conducted a series of searches and detained Dzhelyal and four other Ukrainians. Dzhelyal was accused of undermining a section of the gas pipeline, which occurred on 23 August 2021 near Simferopol and sentenced to 17 years in a strict regime colony, a fine of 700 thousand rubles and 1.6 years of restriction of freedom of movement.
In early October, Nariman Dzhelyalov and brothers Aziz and Asan Akhtemov were forcibly removed from Crimea and sent to prison in the Russian Federation.
