There are currently 4.6 million IDPs in Ukraine. How to get help?

Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Reintegration of the TOT of Ukraine, said about 4.6 million internally displaced persons.

According to her, as of May, 4.6 million people have the status of internally displaced persons (IDPs), while only 1.5 million Ukrainians receive payments. Previously, there were 4.9 million such people.

“This is because certain changes were introduced, particularly last year. People who went abroad lost this status. People who have returned to their homes have also lost this status,” said Vereshchuk.

She said that recently the number of evacuated people from the dangerous areas of Ukraine “is not significant”.

“For example, 3,500 people evacuated from Sumy region in May, and 6,500 people left Kharkiv region. We are talking about those who received an IDP certificate for the first time. At the same time, there are those who received it for the second time – they were already registered,” – the official said.

To recap, it is important not to leave people alone with their problems, so the Crimean Tatar Resource Centre has created the “TurBOTa about IDPs” app in Telegram, which contains information for internally displaced persons, including indigenous peoples and national minorities of Ukraine.
