On Friday, 7 June, the Ukrainian government passed a resolution on approving a list of minority languages that are at risk of extinction, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has reported on 7 June

Among the 9 languages defined by the law, there is Crimean Tatar – the language of the indigenous people, along with Karaite and Krymchak.
“In accordance with the legislation, the state policy in the sphere of national minorities … aims to provide state support to languages threatened with extinction. The list of such languages is approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the basis of international standards,’ the press service said in a statement.
The resolution is necessary for the implementation of the law on national minorities, which is a prerequisite for starting negotiations on Ukraine’s EU membership.
