Uncontrolled mining from subsoil: occupiers extract limestone in Crimean mountains on ‘excessive scale’

June 9, 2024

The occupation authorities of Crimea support uncontrolled extraction from the subsoil of Crimea on an excessive scale for the resort region.

This is reported by ‘Krym.Realii’ with reference to an activist of the Crimean branch of the international movement for the deoccupation of Crimea #LiberateCrimea.

According to him, since the beginning of the occupation of Crimea by rf the scale of limestone mining has increased many times.

‘This is a big Russian business, which for objective reasons can not be controlled by the Ukrainian relevant authorities, and the Russian authorities do not touch it either,’ the activist explained.

Lorries with crushed stone go caravans from the quarry, without tarpaulins, exceeding the speed limit. Also, dust from the quarry near Belogorsk spreads to the surrounding area within a radius of several kilometres.

The activist emphasised that excessive mining is dangerous for the future of Crimea as a resort. In such regions there are scientifically justified restrictions on the scale of extraction from the subsoil.
