Three Crimean political prisoners transferred to psychiatric hospital for compulsory expertise

May 24, 2024
The figurants of the third Dzhankoy ” Hizb ut-Tcase ahrir case” Enver Khalillaev, Arsen Kashka and Vakhid Mustafayev were sent for compulsory forensic psychiatric examination to the Republican Clinical Psychiatric Hospital in Akmesdzhit (Simferopol). This was reported by “Crimean Solidarity” public association.

According to the lawyer Emil Kurbedinov, psychiatric examination is an optional procedure for this category of cases, according to the criminal procedural legislation. The lawyer called it a way to put pressure on those arrested in politically motivated criminal cases.

“Firstly, this is due to the fact that the FSB in terrorism cases tries to “push” everything possible, including such expertise, for lack of any iron proof of guilt of our defendants. Secondly, this is such an approach – what if someone wants to ‘pose’ as a madman, although there has never been any such reason,” – he explained.

He also added that this is a dangerous trend. Now Russians practice moving people without legal grounds to a psychiatric hospital, but at the same time “no one is immune from the use of medical drugs”.

We would like to remind that on 5 March 2024, early in the morning, Russian occupants in Bakhchisarai and Dzhankoy district of the occupied Crimea conducted mass searches in the homes of Crimean Tatars. Searches were conducted in the houses of: Rustem Osmanov, Aziz Azizov, Memet Lumanov, Mustafa Abduramanov, Remzi Kurtnezirov, Vakhid Mustafayev, Ali Mamutov, Arsen Kashka, Enver Khalilaev, Nariman Ametov. All the detainees were accused of violating Article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
