Two Crimean residents who fought in the Russian Armed Forces against Ukraine have been charged with treason, the press service of the Zaporizhzhya regional prosecutor’s office has reported. This was reported by the press-service of the Zaporizhzhya regional Prosecutor’s office.
According to the investigation, two men from the Dzhankoy district and Akyar (Sevastopol) in October 2023 voluntarily signed contracts and joined the 56th airborne assault regiment of the Armed forces of the Russian Federation. The suspects fought in the Zaporizhzhya direction, particularly near Verbovoye and Rabotino.
“Ukrainian defenders captured the suspects during the fighting near Verbovoye in February 2024 and handed them over to law enforcers,” the report said.
The defendants were reported on suspicion under part 2 of article 111 (“State treason”) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
