10 years ago, on 15 March 2014, an Automaidan activist and ex-SBU officer Vasily Chernysh went missing in Crimea. That day was the last time he communicated with his relatives. After that, his family and relatives did not receive any news from him. His whereabouts have remained unknown for 10 years.
According to one of the leaders of Automaidan Oleksiy Hrytsenko, Vasily Chernysh helped military units in early March together with other activists, and then suddenly disappeared.
Unfortunately, after the occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation, disappearances and kidnappings have become a regular practice. The staff and experts of the CTRC have repeatedly informed the international community about these blatant facts of human rights violations on the international platforms of the UN, OSCE, PACE. We condemn the arrests, detentions and abductions of people, which are used in Crimea as a way of pressure and intimidation of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people and pro-Ukrainian activists.
We recall that the Crimean Tatar Resource Centre has recorded 23 victims of enforced disappearances during the period of occupation of Crimea.
