Recall that on February 29, 2024, the European Parliament adopted resolution 2024/2526 (RSP) on the need for unwavering EU support for Ukraine after two years ofRussia’s aggressive war against Ukraine. The resolution recalled the illegal occupation of the Crimean peninsula and other territories of Ukraine.
In the resolution, the European Parliament recalled that rf’s war against Ukraine began with the illegal occupation of the Crimean peninsula in February 2014.
“The peninsula was turned into a military base and became a springboard for a full-scale invasion in 2022,” the document says.
The resolution condemned Russia’s attempts to deprive Ukraine and its people of ethnic, linguistic and historical identity by erasing signs of Ukrainian identity in the occupied territories, banning the use of the Ukrainian language and symbols, as well as an intensive policy of “passportization”.
In addition, the European Parliament recalled the importance of the liberation and deoccupation of the Crimean peninsula, which has been occupied by Russia for ten years, and recalled that citizens of the peninsula loyal to Ukraine, in particular native Crimean Tatars, are subjected to repression, arrest and torture.
