Now according to the Crimean Tatar Resource Center there are 318 political prisoners and persecuted in criminal “cases” for the occupation period of of Crimea, 216 of them are the representatives of the Crimean Tatar people.
In places of detention – colonies and pre-trial detention centers – there are 194 political prisoners, 134 of them are Crimean Tatars.
Unfortunately, the occupants too often violate the rights of political prisoners in places of detention. In particular, this concerns inhuman conditions of detention, torture, threats, use of physical “punishments”, prohibitions to see or communicate with relatives, placement in solitary confinement etc.
All this is done in order to intimidate and break political prisoners, their will and clear civic position, as well as to induce them to cooperate with the Russian occupiers.
As is known, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during his visit to Istanbul on March 8, handed Turkish President Recep Erdogan a list of Ukrainian prisoners held by rf. This list includes repressed Crimean Tatars.
We hope that this can speed up the process of exchange and the return of our citizens home.
