Three Jehovah’s Witnesses from Crimea were transferred to colonies

Jehovah’s Witnesses from Aqyar (Sevastopol) were sent to colonies to serve their sentences. The organization reported this to the Crimean Human Rights Group.

Yevhen Zhukov, Volodymyr Maladyka and Volodymyr Sakada were transported from the Aqmescit (Simferopol) pre-trial detention center to their places of serving their sentences back in November 2023.

We remind you that on October 1, Russian security forces conducted searches in at least 9 houses of Crimean residents in Sevastopol suspected of participating in the religious organization Jehovah’s Witnesses, banned in Russia. As a result, 4 people were detained. Yevhen Zhukov, Volodymyr Sakada and Volodymyr Maladyka were arrested until November 30, Ihor Schmiedt – until November 23. The detainees are accused under Part 1, Art. 282.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Organization of the activities of an extremist organization).

On October 6, 2022, the Nakhimov district court of Sevastopol sentenced political prisoners to 6 years in a general regime colony for participation in the religious organization Jehovah’s Witnesses banned in Russia. According to the decision of the Russian court, Zhukov, Maladyka and Sakada were found guilty of organizing the activities of the extremist organization Jehovah’s Witnesses in Akyar (Sevastopol).
